The theraputic usage of the Aloe Vera plant dates back around 5,000 years to the times of the early Egyptians. Egyptian queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra used it as part of their regular beauty regimes. Aloe Vers is also known to have been used in ancient Greece, India, Mexico, Japan and China. Alexander the Great, and Christopher Columbus used it to treat soldiers’ wounds. The first reference to Aloe Vera in English was a translation by John Goodyew in A.D. 1655 of Dioscorides’ Medical treatise De Materia Medica.

Aloe Vera can be used both topically and orally. When snapping open one of the tough, green leaves, a clear gel can be found (containing around 99% water) & this is often used topically to treat burns, abrasions, psoriasis, and other skin conditions.

Drinking Aloe Vera juice, however, may just be the ultimate healthy habit as it contains over 200 active components including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, polysaccharide, and fatty acids.
